Under what the county calls the 2026 Action Plan, the money comes from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. It will provide renters and buyers with rental assistance aimed at keeping more than 300 households from reaching eviction, and down payment help of $10,000 each for 20 first-time buyers.

Matt Elder, deputy director of Gwinnett County Planning and Development, said it'll be "a mix of single family detached and some different kind of housing types that we haven't seen a ton of before."
Applications aren't open yet as the county says it will sign contracts and begin the designs once the federal money arrives.

Lilburn is the number that explains why eviction prevention is needed. Rent there rose 13.7% over the past year, and Buford saw a 7.2% increase.
Norcross is the county's soft spot, down 7.0% and the only Gwinnett city that's under $1,500 monthly.
