Palmdale's typical rent is now within $30 of Los Angeles. Here's where the Antelope Valley still saves you money

Typical rent in Palmdale was $2,751 a month in August 2026, just $27 below the $2,778 typical rent in Los Angeles, according to RentDataNow data built on the Zillow Observed Rent Index. Palmdale's typical rent is up 35.6% since 2021, while Los Angeles' rose 22.1%.
That doesn't mean an apartment in the high desert costs as much as one in the city. Typical rent counts houses, condos, and apartments together, and the Antelope Valley's rental market leans heavily toward single-family houses. About two-thirds of Palmdale households own their homes, while in Los Angeles about 64% rent. Comparing the same size of unit, the gap opens back up.
